5 Downtown Gravenhurst Businesses to Watch in 2023

Gravenhurst is a thriving community within Muskoka with a variety of local businesses that are making a positive impact in the community. From the established kitchen and market, Relish, to the expanding barbershop, Black Bear Barber and beyond. These businesses are not only providing quality products and services, but also actively participating in community events and initiatives.

Relish

Relish is a kitchen that serves up great food, a cafe and a market. This combination makes Relish a one-stop-shop for a healthy lifestyle.

Relish is not new, they have been a staple in the community for a while now. This established business spearheaded the first open late event this Christmas. Relish’s innovation and community involvement puts them on our list.

Blooming Muskoka

Blooming Muskoka is a florist located near Muskoka Road South and Bay Street. They sell gorgeous bouquets, seasonal flowers and great selection of indoor plants (that we personally have in our office!).

Blooming Muskoka’s new owners are immersing themselves within the community. They took part in the late night Christmas event hosted by Relish and continuously donate flowers to Gravenhurst Against Poverty, giving our residents facing food insecurity something nice to brighten their homes and lift their spirits. We see Blooming Muskoka continuing their growth in the community this year.

Essence of Spice

Essence of Spice is a new Indian restaurant in Gravenhurst, bringing the authentic flavours of India to Muskoka.

On top of providing some great dishes, Essence of Spice has already made some great strides in the community with a Christmas Market, a partnership with Fine Films at the Gravenhurst Opera House across the street and Business Improvement Area (BIA) involvement.

That Store in Gravenhurst

With RPS expanding their business and Adam from Greenish moving on from being Executive Director of the Gravenhurst Chamber of commerce, the team at That Store has the tools to succeed.

That Store sells various goods from local makers and artisans across Muskoka. It has an international bottle shop and offers affordable refillery services. On top of all that, That Store has an incredible “Instagramable feature” with a bright teal payphone outside.

Black Bear Barber

Black Bear Barber has not been in Gravenhurst for long and they have already expanded to a bigger location! Mike, the owner, has a newly renovated shop in a prime location near the Opera House. The shop also has an additional barber with a ton of experience with hair and working at L’oreal.

On top of an expanded business Black Bear Barber is involved with the BIA and has participated in events like the Santa Claus Parade and the Open Late event.

Honourable mention: Well Fed

Well Fed has been a household name in Gravenhurst for over a decade. They are getting an honourable mention for a different reason than the other businesses listed here. Well Fed is currently for sale for $189,000.

Annette, Well Fed’s long time owner, is in search of new owners to take the reins and continue the local eatery’s success. She will also be offering transitional support to the new owners. Any business that goes through a change like new ownership is one to watch. The brand Well Fed has built makes it especially important to keep watching because the new owners will be taking over a well oiled machine from the get go!
